Elusive word of happiness

Happiness is a word that can be regarded as very hollow, elusive, and in certain situation, mystical. Look at this statement on happiness: in anticipation of love, happiness, and death. To the pharaohs, happiness might take the form of a pyramid. Can we conclude that the shape of pyramid is happiness? The pyramid is the symbol of happiness to the population of Egypt at that time, and it contributes to their happiness despite the hardship they have to face in constructing it. In the same breadth, have you ever wonder what does happiness mean to our Dr Mahathir Mohammad? Is it in the buildings or the people?

Today it is all work and reward. The more money you have, the happier you would become. Well, not so. Theories after theories has been developed and written on why people go to work. Hertzberg, McClleland, and Maslow were obsessed with the theories and their work has become references in all management courses. Money is a basic requirement and everyone can have it by just doing something for somebody.

Happiness is a relative word to the wage earner. Why not? Knowing his skills and qualification , $500 can trigger happiness of a kind compare to another individual with an expensive taste of everything. Stare at a friend's face and you would find all the three elements in love, happiness, and death. Everybody and everyday, they are always in anticipation of love, happiness, and death. As for me happiness should be seen as being contented with what you have worked for and at the same time hoping and working for the betterment of tomorrow. Again it is elusive, hollow, mystical, and religious. And as for the benchmark I have set, I am nowhere near it. What about you?
